Who Is Cole Gordon? The Closers.io Founder's Sales Mindset
Before every call, Cole Gordon told himself to let go of the outcome. Here is the sales mindset behind Closers.io and the lines he uses on stalls.

Cole Gordon is the founder of Closers.io, a company that helps business owners hire, train and manage sales teams. He is a former closer with about 538,000 Instagram followers as @colethomasgordon. His sales mindset is simple: let go of the outcome, run the process well, find the truth and have fun on the call.
Before every sales call, a young closer said the same words to himself. They were not about money. They were not about the deal size.
He told himself to stay detached from the outcome. Then he picked three things to care about instead: running his process well, finding the truth and having fun.
That closer was Cole Gordon. He shared the routine in a short video on his YouTube channel. Today he runs Closers.io, and that routine is a good place to start if you want to build a real sales mindset.

Who is Cole Gordon?
Cole Gordon is the founder of Closers.io. On Instagram he is @colethomasgordon, a verified account with about 538,200 followers as of October 17, 2026. His bio reads "$0 > $30M/yr in 26 Months."
That is his claim about how fast his company grew. We have not checked it, and nobody's results are guaranteed.
He started as a closer himself. In one clip he says he was a very good closer who was also great at outbound and follow-up. Why? His team's goals were so high that missing them was not okay. In his words, "if I didn't do that, there was no way I was going to hit projections."
His YouTube channel has about 51,400 subscribers. It is full of sales training, from full courses on objections to live call breakdowns.
What does Cole Gordon sell?
Closers.io helps business owners build sales teams. Its website says it helps companies "find proven salespeople, ramp them into KPI, and systematize management."
The site breaks the work into four parts:
- Assets and economics: a proven offer, a sales process that repeats and a pay plan that can grow.
- Recruiting and hiring: finding and vetting closers.
- Ramp-up training: getting new reps to their numbers faster.
- Systems and management: morning meetings, check-ins and tracking.
Its FAQ says clients keep their sales team in-house, and Closers.io does not take a cut of sales. Most of these teams sell big-ticket offers. Our guide to what high-ticket sales is explains how that world works. If you lead a team, our breakdown of what a sales manager does covers the daily work Closers.io tries to build into a system.
What is a sales mindset, the Cole Gordon way?
A sales mindset is how you think before, during and after a call. Cole's version comes straight from the routine he used as a rep.
In the video about his routine, he says he would first let go of the outcome. Then he would tie himself to three things:
- "Flawless execution of the process." Run every step of the call the right way.
- "Getting to the truth of what they want." He adds two more parts: what is keeping them from it, and if their actions will match their words.
- Having fun. He calls this one really important.
His point is that you can lose the sale and still win. You did the work right. You found the truth. You enjoyed it. That is a win no matter what the buyer says.
How does Cole stay out of his head on a call?
Every rep knows the panic. What do I say next? Where am I on the script?
In another short, Cole says the fix happens before the call. Train a lot. Know your sales process "in and out." Then rest your attention on what the buyer is saying.
He admits it sounds a little woo-woo. But he says when a great rep gets in a rhythm, "it is almost like a meditation." To get there, he says, you have to let go of your fear of rejection and what other people think of you.
He also has a tip for your body. In a clip on confidence, he says very confident people keep their head fairly still when they talk. A still head tends to bring your shoulders back and open your posture. Our list of sales motivation quotes has more lines to repeat before a big call.
What does he do when a buyer says "I need to think about it"?
Cole walks through this one on stage in a short sales training clip. In his example, the price is $12,000 and the buyer wants to sleep on it.
Step 1: Set up tomorrow's call
He says: "So when we talk tomorrow, if you wake up feeling the same exact way you feel right now, then we're 100% doing the investment and moving forward."
Notice the words "when we talk tomorrow." He is not asking if there will be a follow-up call. He is assuming it.
Step 2: Listen to how they answer
A lot of buyers won't say no. They'll say "yeah" in a voice that doesn't sound sure. Cole listens for that.
Step 3: Use a 1-to-10 scale
He keeps it light. One means "I hate this guy." Ten means "this is exactly what I need." If the buyer says seven, he asks what is keeping them from a nine or a ten. As he puts it: "Now you have the objection isolated."
Our Featured Closer Maddie DeCoste handles the same stall in a similar way. She clears the offer first, then asks what is really stopping the buyer. For more ways to find the real reason, read our guide to objection handling for sales.
What does he say when a buyer asks for the price first?
"Just tell me how much it costs." In a role-play review, Cole shows how he answers it.
He does not dodge. He says he is happy to get into the price. But what he sells is custom, so he asks what the biggest problem in their business is right now. Then he only shares the parts that fit that problem.
What if the buyer says things are already going great? Cole tells them that's great, but "you wouldn't be on this call if you weren't looking to get to another level." Then he asks what is holding them back from that next level. Our list of closing questions has more lines that keep the buyer talking about their problem.

What do great closers do between calls?
Cole has a simple rule. In this clip he says that if a closer is not on a call, "the only thing you're trying to do is get on a call."
There are only two ways to do that. Reach out to people you haven't talked to yet. Or follow up with people you have.
He says the no-show hour is where reps split. A great rep fills it with outbound or follow-up. An average rep goes to lunch or puts on a podcast. A short walk is fine, he says, but the hour belongs to the pipeline.
That lines up with our Featured Closer Moe Makke, who built his comeback on calling leads back fast. To sharpen your outreach, see our guide to what cold calling is and our templates for a follow-up email after a sales call.
Why does Cole say pain comes first?
On a 2022 episode of Entrepreneurs on Fire, Cole laid out seven reasons a buyer will buy. The show notes list them as pain, doubt, cost, desire, money, support and trust.
| Reason | What it means |
|---|---|
| Pain | A problem, or a want that isn't met yet |
| Doubt | Why they can't fix it on their own |
| Cost | What the problem costs them to keep |
| Desire | The payoff for fixing it |
| Money | Having the funds and the will to fix it |
| Support | The people around the buyer |
| Trust | Belief in the way you will fix it |
The notes quote him plainly: "Pain is the very first thing we need to establish on a sales call." If there is no problem, there is nothing to sell.
What can any closer learn from Cole Gordon?
- Care about the process, not the result. You control your steps. You don't control the buyer.
- Train before the call. Then you can listen during the call.
- Assume the next step. "When we talk tomorrow" beats "Can we talk tomorrow?"
- Fill every empty hour. No call on the calendar means it's time to get one.
- Find the pain first. Everything else in the call builds on it.
Where can you follow Cole Gordon?
You can follow Cole on Instagram and YouTube as @colethomasgordon. His company's site is closers.io. These days a lot of his reels are clips from his podcast. In one of them he says that when people stop him in cities like Vegas and Austin, maybe 50% to 70% know him from those Instagram clips.
He also talks a lot about brand. In another reel he compares two clients, both at eight figures, with the same offer. He says one had about a 10% refund rate and the other had almost none. The big difference, he says, was that one had a huge brand and buyers who came from his content.
Go back to that young closer, saying the same words before every call. Let go of the outcome. Run the process. Find the truth. Have fun. In his own math, if you take 10 sales calls and close five, "we can still have 10 wins." That is a sales mindset you can start using on your next call. You can meet more people like him in our Featured Closers section.
